We want to provide all children with a safe, positive gymnastics experience. Our young gymnasts deserve the best that gymnastics can offer them, both as a sport and as an activity. Our coaches and instructors will work hard to be positive role models for your children. We realize that your students may not be gymnasts for very long, so we strive to provide them with opportunities to learn valuable life lessons along the way, such as commitment, hard work, and perseverance. Our top priority is the gymnasts’ safety and self-esteem.

PRESCHOOL CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

Welcome to the wonderful world of Pre-School Gymnastics. Kudos to you for choosing such a wonderful activity for your preschooler. Gymnastics offers so many benefits in a child’s development, physically and socially. River City Gymnastics takes great pride in developing a safe, fun, and progressive program made specifically for this age group. Your child will begin to explore the world of gymnastics forward, backward, and sideways in an educational yet fun filled class. Lessons are planned so that we can help build, strong, confident, and healthy children through the fun of gymnastics. Preschoolers are on the move and ready to go and so are our coaches! Our rotations are designed so that each child has something to do at all times and there is little to no “wait time”. Each class begins with a 5 minute warm up and stretch to get everyone ready for the fun activities that await them. We participate in 4 to 5 rotations per class, each with 4 – 6 stations. In each of our stations, we focus on strength, hand-eye coordination, problem solving, flexibility, socialization, and of course, GYMNASTICS skills! Forward and backward rolls, cartwheels, pullovers, handstands, and swings are just a few of the many elements your child will be working on. We end our day with a group activity and the all important good job stamp! Below is a description of each of our preschool classes that will leave your child wanting to leap tall buildings in a single bound!

Pre-School Class Description

Parent and Tot (1-2.5 years):

We introduce the world of fitness to our youngest gymnasts in this tots program. This parent participation class focuses on skills and activities that allow each child to work on physical and social development. Our Parents and Tot class have a lesson plan that is specific to the toddler age as well as attention spans. Children must be able to walk to attend this class.

Terrific Tots (3-4 years):

There is no stopping these guys! At this point, your child can retain a great deal of instruction, skill knowledge, and proper terminology. Gross motor skills are well developed and allow for higher and age appropriate skill levels. With greater body awareness and the ability to solve problems, technique begins to play an important role in the lessons.

Super Tots (4-5 years):

This class is for the Preschool Powerhouses! Super Tots is considered a Challenge Class for our more advanced preschool students who show great skill potential. This class will continue to follow a preschool curriculum, only with more advanced skills.

RECREATIONAL GYMNASTICS CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

Our girls recreational class program is designed with fun and fitness in mind. We strive to meet the gymnastics needs of all children with a wide range of athletic ability. We follow the USA Gymnastics guidelines with respect to skill progressions and development in the four Olympic events of Vault, Bars, Beam, and Floor. We also utilize the trampoline and tumble track to add to the students’ development of body control and awareness and to help develop strength.

School Age Class Descriptions

Gym 1 Beginner (Ages 6-14)

This is the perfect place for kids to begin a gymnastics career! The instructors lead the beginning student through the basic skills of gymnastics while awarding the many opportunities for success that participating in gymnastics offers.

Gym 2 Intermediate (Ages 6-14)

This class builds on the knowledge and skills that were learned in Gym 1. This intermediate level of recreational gymnastics continues to develop fun skills and the overall strength and flexibility that gymnastics requires to move to the next level of accomplishment.

Gym 3 Advanced (Ages 6-14)

Our most advanced recreational class has an open ended curriculum to meet the needs of the student who not only wants to compete one day but also those students who are just in gymnastics for the fun of it.

TUMBLING CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

Learn to cartwheel and flip in our special “tumbling only” classes, perfect for kids interested in cheerleading, dance, or martial arts. Tumbling class is also terrific for kids who want to stay active and have lots of fun! Gymnastics students may also add a tumbling class to their workout schedule in order to speed their progression in the sport. Tumblers get a great workout using the Spring Floors, Trampolines, Tumble Trak and other special equipment. Drills are included to enhance strength and flexibility necessary for tumbling skills.

Tumbling Class Descriptions

Tumbling 1 Beginner (Ages 6-14)

Beginner tumblers learn basic tumbling skills, using the spring floors, trampolines, and tumble track. Students will work on progressive skills leading up to back and front handsprings, including handstands, cartwheels, round-offs, and back walkovers. Drills to improve technique will be the focus and students will also perform conditioning drills to improve strength and flexibility necessary for tumbling. No previous skills are required. Students will progress to Intermediate Tumbling when they can consistently perform a back handspring with a light spot from the coach.

Tumbling 2 Intermediate (Ages 6-14)

Intermediate tumbling is designed for those tumblers who are able to perform their back handspring with a light spot. Intermediate tumblers will focus on performing a back handspring without a spot and on connecting their round-off back handsprings. Tumblers will also be introduced to front tumbling. Students will progress to Advanced Tumbling when they are able to perform a round-off back handspring series independently.

Tumbling 3 Advanced (Ages 7-14)

Advanced tumbling is designed for students who can consistently perform a round-off, back handspring with no help from a coach. Tumblers will focus on connecting multiple back handsprings with proper techniques and will perform drills in leading to back tucks, layouts, and twisting layouts. Enrollment for this class is by coach recommendation after an evaluation has been completed.

Cheer 1 (Ages 6-9)

The beginning Cheer 1 class is designed to help your child progress through an organized curriculum where your child will learn correct body control on his/her jumps, motions, tumbling, and stunts. This class is open to all with no requirements to join.

Cheer 2 (Ages 10-14)

We will focus on proper technique for stunting, jumps, tumbling, and motions. Our curriculum is set up so your son/daughter will progress in a manner that meets each of their individual needs. This class is open to all levels. So if you are just starting out, or would like to work with your school stunt group to achieve new, creative stunts, this is the class for your child. If high school students are interested in classes to help with flyer flexibility, jumps, proper stunting, baskets, and tumbling techniques, please let us know and we will be happy to work with you, too.

  • EACH PARTY IS 1-1/2 HOURS LONG WITH 1 HOUR OF GYMNASTICS AND 1/2 HOUR OF PARTY ROOM RENTAL.
  • COST IS $200 FOR UP TO 15 KIDS, $10 PER CHILD OVER 15. CLUBS AT RIVER CITY MEMBERS PRICE $150.
  • WE PROVIDE THE PARTY ROOM, TABLES AND CHAIRS, CLEAN UP AND OF COURSE, SUPERVISED SUPER GYMNASTICS FUN!
  • YOU PROVIDE DECORATIONS AND FOOD.
  • EACH NON MEMBER PARTICIPANT WILL NEED A PARENT OR GUARDIAN TO SIGN A WAIVER.
  • NOTE: $50 NON-REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT DUE TO RESERVE DATE. BALANCE DUE A WEEK BEFORE EVENT.
