START/ReSTART TENNIS

Whether you have never held a racquet or have not played in years, this is the perfect program for you. The Start/ReStart tennis program introduces new adult players and welcomes back past players in the beginning levels. This program teaches technique, builds skills, and gets you ready for the next steps of your tennis game.

Tuesday 9:30 – 10:30am  Thursday  6:30 – 7:30pm

2.5 LEVEL

This player is learning to judge where the ball is going, although court coverage is weak. They can sustain a rally of slow pace with other players of the same ability.

Wednesday 6:00 – 7:30pm

3.0 LEVEL

This player is consistent when hitting medium paced shots, but not comfortable with all strokes and lacks control when trying for directional intent, depth or power.

Wednesday 9:30 – 11:00am Thursday 6:00 – 7:30pm

3.5 LEVEL

This player has improved stroke dependability and direction on moderate shots but lacks depth and variety. They exhibit more aggressive net play, have improved court coverage and are developing teamwork in doubles.

Monday 6:00 – 7:30pm Wednesday 9:30 – 11:00am

4.0 LEVEL

This player has dependable strokes, including directional intent and depth on both forehand and backhand sides on moderate shots. They have the ability to use lobs, overheads, approach shots and volleys with some success. Can force errors when serving and shows evidence of teamwork in doubles.

TRX TENNIS TRAINING

This class is a combination of TRX band training and a quickly moving tennis drill that incorporates stroke production and footwork while the TRX focuses on strength and core strengthening.

CARDIO TENNIS

Cardio tennis offers adult players a fun way to get a good cardiovascular workout. We gear our classes to all levels of players and encourage players to work hard throughout the class. This class uses a variety of fast moving drills and games.

MEN’S DRILLS

Geared towards players with a 3.0 NTRP rating or higher. This class offers advanced strokes, strategies, and action packed drills.

The Clubs at River City offers USTA Adult League Teams in Men’s, Women’s, Mixed Doubles, and Senior levels. Teams travel to other Central Illinois Tennis clubs to compete and move on to District, State, Sectional, and National competitions.

In the event of court cancellations with less than 48 hours notice, the court costs will be the responsibility of those reserving the court until the court is sold (rebooked). The greater the notice of cancellation, the greater the chance of selling the court!

Pee-Wee Tennis Program (Ages 4 – 6)

Foam Balls

The Pee Wee Clinic is an introduction for children who have never played tennis before or are still learning the very basics of the game. Instructors will focus on hand-eye coordination, motor skills, and FUN!

Saturday 10:00-11:00am

Super Stars (Ages 7+)

Green Dot Balls (25% slower than standard yellow balls)

The Super Stars Clinic is for beginner students who have never played tennis before or are still learning the very basics of the game. Students may have completed the Pee Wee Program or are just starting at age 7. Students will learn basic grips, forehand/backhand volleys and groundstrokes, and will be introduced to serving.  Instructors will help prepare students for *Red, *Orange, or *Green Level USTA events by teaching boundary rules, scoring, and sportsmanship.

Novice

The Novice Clinic is for students who have completed the Super Stars program. Instructors will focus on full-court play including serves, service-return, groundstrokes, volleys, and overheads. Students will learn how to play standard, *Yellow Level USTA rules and regulations for competency to enter tournaments and events. Instructors will incorporate footwork and consistency drills in combination with fun, competitive drills/games.

Junior Excellence (ages 13 and under) and Tournament Training (ages 14-18)

NOTE: Tournament Training Not Offered in Summer 2017.  Coming Back Fall 2017!

The Jr. Excellence and Tournament Training Clinics are for students who have completed the Novice program. Instructors will focus on competitive full-court play for both singles and doubles. Students will begin to consistently employ the use of continental grips for serves, volleys, and overheads. Students will be introduced to the use of topspin and backspin on both the forehand and backhand sides, as well as specialty shots (lobs and drop shots). Instructors will reinforce rules and regulations for *Yellow Level USTA events and encourage tournament/event participation.

Davis Cup

The Davis Cup Clinic is for students who have completed the Tournament Training and/or Jr. Excellence programs. This program is for the serious tennis player who is active and highly competitive in high school and/or USTA tournaments/events. Singles and doubles play (including various doubles formations) will be employed with a focus on strategic, critical thought processes in point development. Students will learn how to mix in topspin, backspin, lobs and drop shots with confidence and consistency. Students will also learn how to mix up the use of slice, flat, and topspin serves on both the deuce and the ad sides of the court.

YOUTH INDOOR COURT TIME

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENT:

1) Includes Junior  & Family-Dependent members.
2) Excludes non-members.
3) The youth must be enrolled and participating in a clinic session or a lesson series.
4) The duration of the youth’s eligibility for the FREE time is the dates of the clinic
session, provided that the youth remains enrolled. If the youth has a private lesson
series, then the date the series is billed until the date of the last lesson taken, is the
free time duration, but it may not exceed 3 months.  If more than one family
member shares a private series, then the free time duration is reduced propor-
tionately.

RESERVATION RULES:
1) Reservations may be made no earlier than 5pm of the day prior to play (includes
youth with adult reservations).
2) Youths may play other youths or adult members…..1 hour for singles or 1 ½
hours for doubles.
3) Youths may use a court for serving practice, rental of the ball machine or use of
the backboard (North Club ONLY).  If using the the ball machine, the youth must
have had prior instruction on machine safety before using the machine alone!  The
ball machine rental fee is $3.50 per ½ hour.  Reserved time is limited to ½ hour
per person on the court for serving practice, ball machine rental or backboard use.
4)   If a court is available when the reserved time ends, “walk-on” time is allowed at
no charge if during the FREE hours.  Players must check with the desk person re-
garding court availability at the END of their reserved time.
5) If youths are unable to use a reserved court time, please call the club as soon as
possible, as someone else may be able to use that time.
 
FREE YOUTH INDOOR COURT HOURS (PROVIDED ALL REQUIREMENTS ARE MET AND RULES ARE OBSERVED):
1) South Building…… Mon-Thurs……….Noon – 5 PM
Fri-Sat-Sun……….Noon – Closing
 
2) North Building……..All regular hours of operation, but reserved time or “walk-
on” time may not extend beyond the last clinic, private
lesson or adult only reserved times.

NOTES:
1) At South, if courts are reserved or “walk-on” time is used outside of the FREE
hours, then court fees will apply.  Cancellations or NO SHOWS of courts reserved outside the FREE hours will also be billed (see Indoor Court Rate sheet).
2) Youth only “FREE” court reservations may be cancelled by the club to accomo-
date clinics, private lessons or adult reservations.
3) FREE youth court time is a privilege!  Abusive or disruptive behavior on the
court may result in loss of this privilege!                    


The Clubs at River City Junior Elite Training Group 2016

This group is designed for the serious USTA tournament player who is looking to improve their game and ranking. To be eligible for this group, one must have a positive work ethic on the court and good sportsmanship towards the other players in the group and the coaching staff.
Topics to be covered in this class are:

  • Match Strategy
  • Point Development
  • Drills specifically to strengthen individual weaknesses in match play
  • Footwork and explosive movement drills
  • Consistency drills
  • Advanced stroke development

*Players must be approved by either Club Professional Mario Palmieri or Cy Lystila
*Classes are on Sundays from 1:00 – 5:00pm
*Players must commit to the entire session
